About Joseph Kathmann
For having such a strong passion for the music industry, I only recently entered the industry. Until May 2013, I was struggling to find my purpose in life as I struggled through the business school at James Madison University. (JMU) While at home, I worked at Frisch's Big Boy. While there, I did learn some of the basics of being a team player, as well as how to deal with various managers with different styles and staying on top of my work load. However, I knew I needed to start figuring out what I needed to do with my life. Thanks to some encouragement from friends and family, I started working at Bogart's Music Club in May 2013 and have been there during my breaks ever since. I have always loved music, as I have played in various musical ensembles all throughout my time at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and JMU in Harrisonburg. Additionally, I have been a member of the marching band at both St. X and JMU, totaling eight years of membership. I just never figured that I could make a career out of it. However now, thanks to the incredible opportunities I have been given at Bogarts, that's exactly what I'm going to do.
In September 2013, I started a blog. I started this blog initially just to take my mind off of music. Personally, I don't like to get tunnel vision and just focus on one thing, so I started this blog to take my mind off of the wonderful world of music and focus on something else. Well, thanks to a newspaper article, an endorsement from a well-known athlete at JMU, and constant word-of-mouth advertising from myself and a lot of my friends, my blog has become quite popular. Called Enter the Movies, what I do is simple on said blog: I review movies and entertain people while I do it thanks to my unique and personal writing style. At this point, Enter the Movies is averaging well over 100 views a day, and that number is slowly making its way to 200 views a day. I didn't think anyone would read the blog, and yet now it has over 100,000 views. I can safely say that this blog is fulfilling its purpose of ensuring I don't get tunnel vision with the music industry. Don't think I've let my music industry side slide here, however. In March 2014, I had the unique and rare opportunity to shadow the GM of Bogart's, Karen Foley, and witness the day-to-day operations that is running a music venue. It was an incredible experience, one that I won't forget for quite some time. Bogart's has provided me with many wonderful opportunities, and I am grateful for each and every one of them. Now I'm managing a metal band, and am working for Dawn Johnson of ABC, all while graduating from JMU in the spring of 2015. It's amazing how far I've come.
